Ryuichi Sakamoto
Don't expect a gentle piano recital here; this is an adventurous gathering of modern electronic minds. Ryuichi Sakamoto handed the raw sonic material from async over to visionary artists like Oneohtrix Point Never, Arca, Alva Noto, and Cornelius to reshape completely on their own terms.
Japanese CD · remix album
The acoustic field recordings, piano chords, and ambient textures from the original async get diced into precise glitch patterns by Alva Noto, bent into volatile forms by Arca, and reframed with breezy collage textures by Cornelius. It is fascinating to hear how each collaborator paints with the exact same palette.
If you already follow cutting-edge electronic and experimental production, this tracklist reads like a dream lineup. It makes a stellar gift for modular synth enthusiasts or anyone interested in modern sound design. Best enjoyed late at night when you can catch every tiny, shifting sound detail.
